They write blog articles, ads or product pages for you. They? These are writing tools that use Artificial Intelligence (AI). In recent months, these “robot editors” have multiplied. But what are they really worth? I tested 4 for you.

Are web copywriters and editors doomed to disappear?

I see you frowning, but the question deserves to be asked as content automation tools are multiplying.

Using Artificial Intelligence, they offer to write any type of content in one stroke of a magic wand, whether it is a blog article, a product page, a sponsored post on Facebook, etc.

Their promise: “Spend less money and time.” Understand here money by paying a professional writer. Wolves.

But are these tools really effective?

4 AI-based writing tools

Struck by curiosity (and concerned about my professional career), I therefore decided to experiment with them.

I tested four of them: Writesonic, Mark Copy, Thundercontent, and CopyAI.

So am I going to change jobs again?

For the record I was a journalist. In an article, I gave some tips on How to contact journalists.

Note that this paper was not written using one of these AIs;)

GPT chat

GPT chat is the new shock wave in the AI world. This latest experiment byOpenAI is a conversational tool capable of understanding natural human language and generating highly accurate written texts, just like a human would.

Its name comes from the combination of the terms “chat” and “GPT”, meaning respectively “conversation” and “predictive language transduction model”, Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, in English.

Beyond generating answers to questions, ChatGPT can also be used to translate, summarize a text, or even write computer code. It adapts to a multitude of topics and language styles. He can therefore easily generate content for social networks, write scripts for movies and series, or create chatbots for businesses.

Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI, revealed that over 1 million users had downloaded ChatGPT in the 5 days prior to its launch. Remember that it is only a prototype, however!

How does it work?

For now ChatGPT is free. To use it, all you have to do isinscribe.

Once registered, no technical skills are required to start using it. All you have to do is ask him a question in the chat box at the bottom of the window. Formulate the question naturally, as if you were speaking to a human. In just a few seconds, ChatGPT provides you with an elaborate answer in perfect French.

Here, I asked him to list the most beautiful castles in France for me:

I also asked him to list questions for me in order to prepare an interview with Tesla's human resources:

It is possible to have a complete conversation with the cat. The most? He remembers the topics mentioned. It is therefore possible to ask him to generate a text or a code, and then to make improvements. For example, I asked him to come up with a name for my new business:

Then I asked him to shorten them:

Then, I went a bit further, asking him to write me the lyrics of a song by the rapper Orelsan. Result? None! Although he did not know how to answer me, he still managed a pirouette with some (light) information about the singer.

Verdict

While still in the research phase, this tool is impressive for its precision and impeccable language. While still in its infancy, ChatGPT can truly act as an AI assistant to streamline the content creation or software development process.

However, despite a very convincing tone, sometimes the facts he states are false. It is therefore necessary to check the content, which can be a waste of time. In addition, some sentences are repeated, risking to lead to duplicate content. Sometimes he's just not in a position to respond or comes up with sentences that are a bit too verbose.

In short? It's a great achievement but let's wait to see the final version!

Writesonic

Among all the writing tools available, I chose to test first Writesonic. I had spotted it on Appsumo, a site that allows you to buy software licenses for life. If you are not yet familiar with the platform, I highly recommend it.

So who is Writesonic? This tool, which uses OpenAI's GPT-3 technology, is presented as a “pocket editor” that, in a few minutes, produces high-quality and “effortless” copies.

Writesonic allows you to write blog articles, landing pages, Google and Facebook ads, product descriptions or emails. He also offers ideas for articles to generate more traffic, titles for his YouTube videos, and ideas for growth for his startup. Just that!

How does it work?

First step: registration.

This one is free. All you have to do is enter your email address.

Writesonic grants 10 credits and offers to create its first “project”.

Créer un nouveau projet sur Writesonic

It then asks me to select the type of content I want to create. For this experience, I chose Facebook Ads.

My objective: to advertise a brand of natural beauty products made in France.

Avec Writesonic, il est possible de rédiger plusieurs types de contenu.

I fill in the required fields: the brand name and a short description. It also asks me to specify an occasion (Grandmothers' Day, Easter, Christmas) and a promotion if I do one. Writesonic offers multiple languages. Here I clicked on “French”.

My brand is Kikou Cosmetics. Note that it does not exist. I invented it for this test.

Créer une Facebook Ads avec Writesonic

In less than 30 seconds, watch in hand, Writesonic offers me 10 Facebook ads.

The result is quite impressive:

Writesonic crée automatiquement des Facebook Ads
L'Intelligence Artificielle de Writesonic rédige des publicités Facebook.

Ads are not perfect at all, but can be a basis for working on better ones.

After Facebook Ads, I then wanted to test the “Blog Intros” module. This one generates the beginning of an article or a description of his blog. Here, I have chosen to start a paper with the title “Why choose a natural beauty product”.

Avec Writesonic, il est aussi possible de créer des intros de blog

Less than 30 seconds later, Writesonic offered me 5 ideas. Here are the first 3:

The result is less impressive. A lot of rewriting needs to be done, but the ideas are not that bad. I have to admit it.

Verdict

I have not tested all the modules — some of which are only available in English — but my experience with Writesonic has been quite positive.

This tool does not replace the work of a professional. On the other hand, it can be a great help for all those who are lacking inspiration.

Mark Copy

After Writesonic, I set my sights on Mark Copy. I discovered it on LinkedIn, via the posts of its CEO Selim Chehimi. This tool — French to be precise — also uses the GPT-3 language. His promise: “Write content 3x faster.” Mark Copy makes it possible to generate any type of content: SEO-optimized blog articles, social media posts, prospecting emails, etc.

How does it work?

First step: registration.

Mark Copy offers a free trial, and recently, without adding a credit card. Very good point! I'm not hiding from you that when I have to fill in my credit card, I'm on the brakes.

Once I have registered, the tool offers me a short tutorial to understand how to use it.

After this introduction, I moved on to creating a blog post on a subject that concerns me: the stinky fridge (how to get rid of bad smells). I am a cheese addict. Long live Munster!

The tool first allows me to generate a title. I already had one, but I wanted more options.

Pretty good!

Mark then generates several summaries.

I selected the first one. This one is not exceptional, but the tool allows me to modify it later.

I then asked Mark to generate an introduction and text for the final part: Foods that make bad smells go away.

Here's what it looks like:

Verdict

I didn't go all the way, but my first impression was positive. Mark Copy is quite impressive.

The texts are far from perfect but the ideas are there. All you have to do is rework them, add your own paw to get a pretty good blog post.

The little extra of Mark Copy: the SEO assistant!

Thundercontent

Now comes Thundercontent. I discovered this tool on the forum of Growthhacking.fr. If you are not familiar with this platform, I also recommend that you go there. You will find a lot of growth tips there. The community is quite committed.

Thundercontent is a newcomer to the world of AI-based writing tools. It uses artificial intelligence to help us “write unique articles on any subject at the speed of light.”

How does it work?

First step: registration.

It is also free. All you have to do is give your email.

Once registered, Thundercontent grants 5,000 credits and offers to go directly to the writing of the article.

Thundercontent est un outil basé sur l'Intelligence Artificielle

So I click on “Write a new article” and I arrive at a text editor. Here, I have to write my article as on a Word document or on WordPress.

Thundercontent does not write for me but helps when I block. It's a small assistant editor, a second brain in a way. The tool requires you to write at least 150 characters in advance, then generates text if necessary.

For this test, I took one of my old articles. A paper that I wrote for my own blog.

Cet outil crée du contenu à notre place.

The words highlighted in blue are those that were generated by the AI. For these few lines, around 500 credits have been withdrawn.

Verdict

I am quite blown away by the result. The text needs to be revised, but the information is accurate. The proposed text is a bit like what I wrote.

Not bad at all!

Just launched, Thundercontent has some bugs. Problems that the teams will surely solve in the coming weeks.

This tool is a great discovery. It can be a good virtual assistant.

CopyAI

Third and last writing tool tested: CopyAI. I discovered it on Product Hunt, a platform that highlights the latest tech news.

The possibilities with CopyAI are numerous: this tool, which is also based on GPT-3, allows you to write blog intros, product descriptions, emails, write content on the AIDA framework or even create powerful posts on social networks. He also gives ideas for titles, subject lines for his emails, etc. In short, a real war machine.

How does it work?

First step: registration.

It is also free. All you have to do is give your email address. Access is valid for 7 days.

Once connected, the platform looks like this:

CopyAI est un autre outil d'aide à la rédaction de contenu

I chose the Tool “Hero Text Landing Page.”

For this test, I took over my beauty brand Kikou Cosmétiques, and I filled in the requested fields: the name of the brand and a description. Note that it is possible to choose your language.

Here is what the AI offers me in English:

L'outil CopyAI génère automatiquement des titres de landing page

And in French:

Yeah.

I then tested “Blog Intro” by taking over my Kikou Cosmetics brand again.

CopyAI offered me other descriptions:

The texts are far from perfect but the ideas are there. I can prick them and rework them in my own way.

Verdict

I haven't tested all the features, but CopyAI is an interesting tool to challenge your ideas. For a second brain, I agree.

Conclusion

Yes, these writing tools are welcome.

They are particularly interesting for:

  • Unblock a blank page
  • Expand your writings
  • Find content ideas

On the other hand, they will not replace copywriters and web editors.

As we saw in the examples, tools don't make copies perfect. The quality is far from being there, and all the proposed texts must be reworked.

These tools can complement and facilitate human work, but in no way replace it!

Remember that your writing is your most powerful weapon to perform. It is it that makes you unique, that differentiates you from your competitors. And today (and even tomorrow), no machine will be able to match it.

Producing average or even poor quality content is a guarantee of failure. Only your pen will allow you to create exceptional content. It is entirely possible to rely on these tools, but not on your laurels.
